Why focus on the past? Get over it already. Have you heard of the expression “walk it off”. People focus far too much on the negative and far too little on the positive. If they simply faked positivity, everyone would be so much more comfortable.
Hold on, isn’t comfort is a bad thing?
These are the silly things we tell ourselves. Comfort seems to be so frequent a goal. But what if we thought outside the box? What if comfort is actually a bad thing? If we are comfortable, we are not challenged at all. If we are comfortable we are not learning. If we are comfortable we are not being creative, inspired, nor inspiring. Think about it. If we walk into an interview in sweat pants and a messy bun, we are comfortable, sure. However, we are not going to be confident, we are not going to feel our best or most powerful. If we released this notion of comfort however, we can step outside the edges. We can invest in ourselves and dress a little less comfortable, perhaps in a new suit. We sacrifice our comfort, but there is power in feeling that we look our best. Forget the superficiality of being judged for how we look for a minute. Focus only on how we feel about how we look. There is a difference between the days that we stay in our pajamas, versus the days we put on make up and style our hair. That difference does not come from outside validation. It is our own inner light that shines when we are confident in ourselves.
Of course, this is a small example of how comfort does not equate success, happiness or a valuable goal. There are so many more though. The point is, we need to put ourselves out there. Do not turn away when things get challenging, dig in deeper. Finding out what we are really made of, what we can do especially for the first time can open a world of opportunities. We just need to open the door.
